DEPOK – (29/9/2021) On Wednesday (29/9), the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI) held the Opening of the 71st Anniversary Event titled “Living a Legacy”. The event took place in a hybrid way, at the FEB UI Depok Campus and on Zoom.

More than 300 people, consisting of the Board of Professors and the Academic Senate of the Faculty, lecturers, all academics, residents of FEB UI, and the extended family of FEB UI alumni, attended the event through the online application Zoom.

Initially, the event displayed a video of the latest conditions of the FEB UI campus during the pandemic. Then, Acting Dean of FEB UI Teguh Dartanto, Ph.D. reminisced a little on history, Universitas Indonesia was established since the days of the Dutch East Indies, but FEB UI was established after the proclamation of independence, precisely on 18 September 1950.

Teguh said that, “During its establishment, FEB UI contributed a lot to the economy of the nation. We have made a history of building a legacy, having the greatness of the past and the glory of the present. However, we still need to prepare for the future, to lead in building a new legacy, in accordance with the theme “Living a Legacy” on the 71st Anniversary of FEB UI.”

“Within the context of continuous improvement, FEB UI is striving to achieve the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation through innovations, one of which is through the Center for Education and Learning in Economics and Business (CELEB), a center for the development of education and teaching that is always relevant.” he continued.

Teguh also expressed his gratitude to the teachers and education staff who are into their retirement, “Hopefully you can enjoy your retirement with joy because in truth, retirement is just a change of routine. Ladies and gentlemen, you can always continue to work outside of the institution.”

Chairman of the Board of Professors of the Faculty, Prof. Susiyati B. Hirawan, Ph.D. said that, “FEB UI has been through difficult and happy times for 71 years. Quoting Bung Hatta’s speech while attending the UI Dies Natalis in 1957, universities need to carry out the mission of forming moral and democratic people and focusing on character building education. The root is the love of truth, universities must educate people to dare to say and act honestly in the face of adversity. Hopefully this will all become the identity of the people who have occupied UI.”

Chairman of the Academic Senate of the Faculty, Benedict Raksaka Mahi, Ph.D. said, “I think the “Living a Legacy” theme is very appropriate to represent all FEB UI society. At the age of 71, FEB UI has made many proud achievements—not to mention during the pandemic period—education, teaching, and research activities from the academic community are all going well. In fact, several lecturers have achieved the highest academic degrees and published scientific journals of international repute. So are the students. In essence, we all continue to build the best legacy for FEB UI.”

After the proceedings, the event entered the session of cutting the Nasi Tumpeng and citing a prayer to celebrate the FEB UI’s 71st Anniversary. The event was followed with video screenings of retired lecturers and staff, memorials, as well as the presenting of souvenirs to retired lecturers and staff.

Representing the retired lecturers, Ir. Ruslan Prijadi, Ph.D. told the story of his teaching journey at FEB UI. “Long live FEB UI, I hope you will continue to work and contribute to the welfare of society. I never dreamed of receiving the trust to become a lecturer at FEB UI. Hopefully we can all continue to work, not only by advancing FEB UI, but advancing the interests of the nation as well.”

Widhi Astono, M.M., thanked FEB UI for allowing him to devote himself for 4 decades at his alma mater. “I have been teaching since 1982, but for me, the challenges of teaching staff today are more difficult with industrialization 4.0. Moreover, due to distance learning due to the pandemic, lecturers must think hard to deliver teaching materials to students in an interesting way. Therefore, lecturers must follow the latest developments.”

“During 40 years of working, I have seen that the quality of the teaching staff at FEB UI is amazingly good, supported by a range of leaders and great facilities. Dirgahayu FEB UI, enjoy the series of activities for the 71st Anniversary.” he added.

In representing retired staff, Ir. Endang Yuliati Sri Wahyuni expressed her deepest gratitude to FEB UI for providing space to work and create. “FEB UI opened an opportunity for me to add knowledge, motivation, and insight in supporting a career at FEB UI for about 33 years. Today is a very difficult moment for me because I have to part with all my colleagues. My hope is that lecturers, teaching assistants, fellow staff, and students have been helped by my presence, cooperation, and performance.”

Finally, the event was closed by songs  from students. From September to November 2020, FEB UI will hold a series of activities integrated with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education to celebrate the 71st FEB UI anniversary.
