DEPOK – (9/10/2021) On Saturday (9/10/2021),The Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI) in collaboration with the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga held an International Lecturer Series. This event is a seminar/discussion activity with local and foreign lecturers raising management issues during the pandemic, namely “Management Issues in the Pandemic: Concept and Practices” entitled “Innovative Teaching Learning during the Pandemic”.

The resource persons at this seminar are Dr. Siti Zaleha Sahak from Universiti Teknologi MARA-Malaysia, Dr. Rifelly Dewi Astusti from Universitas Indonesia, and Dr. Gancar Candra Premananto from Universitas Airlangga, with moderator Raras Kirana Wandira S.E., M.B.A., M.M., from Universitas Airlangga.

Head of the Management Department of FEB UI, Prof. Dr. Irwan Adi Ekaputra and Dr. Gancar Candra Premananto, Head of the Management Department of FEB Unair opened this seminar which then started with the main event, namely the presentations of the speakers.

Rifelly, as the first resource person, explained that it is very important to know students (Know our Students) more comprehensively and give tips in online learning. These tips include an online survey of students, having clear lecture goals, and the importance of choosing technological media that supports online learning.

For the next stage for online learning, Rifelly revealed the principle of “planning is a must” in starting courses, consisting of a learning plan and syllabus, synchronous and asynchronous methods are needed to interact with students with various existing communication media. The final stage with engagement can be done by getting the attention of students, encouraging prioritized learning, getting performance and feedback through small discussions in break-out rooms, finally reflective and retention sessions so that students can remember the lectures that have been taught.

As the second resource person, Gancar Candra Premananto added about why an innovative learning process is needed. It is explained that we are already living in an innovative era, where students are not only taught classically, but they must also experience it. Online meetings/Zooming are boring, so innovation is needed to encourage enthusiastic and happy students. Pandemic conditions are sometimes stressful, so there must be edutainment to make students avoid stress. With the differentiation of lecturers, the innovative learning process will certainly be able to attract students outside the university institution. This can be achieved through the academic side by providing journals that discuss the effects of innovative teaching.

As the third resource person, Siti Zaleha Sahak, explained about one of the elective courses, Strategic Brand Management, which is offered to final semester MBA students at Arshad Ayub Graduate Business School (AAGBS). This course emphasizes the existence of online interaction on the connection and involvement of students. Use of interactive apps like kahoot! and Mentimeter are also introduced. Not to forget, she added that the Human Touch needed was to be innovative, interactive, flexible and empathic in each lecture.
