FEB UI A Home for All: The Story of Dodo’s Struggle

I dream that FEB UI, as well as other schools in this country, can become a home, like a cage for small birds, a place to decide where to fly and where to build a new cage one day. (Zulfikar Akbar Cordova, S1 Graduate from IEI FEB UI 2021).

The Graduation Ceremony of the FEB UI Bachelor Program in September 2021 felt different from usual. We present a graduate not because of great achievements, but a graduate with simple childhood dreams and believing that education is the best way to turn the tide of their destiny. This is a story about Zulfikar Akbar Cordova, who is fondly called Dodo, a street singer, a C-package graduate from the Master School (Masjid Terminal) Depok who finally obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Islamic Economics Study Program FEB UI.

The 2015 UI Hall was a witness that we once welcomed Dodo with great enthusiasm, full of applause and hope for equality and fairness in access to education for all. Dodo’s 6-year journey at FEB UI is not a story about Books, Love and Parties, but the struggle against wounds, obstacles, alienation, and despair. However, there are always loving hands from friends, lecturers, head of study programs, education staff, foster parents, and alumni who have always been a strong reason and encouragement for Dodo to continue to persevere and rise to realize childhood dreams that were almost impossible to realize.

Caring for the hopes and dreams of Dodo and millions of other Indonesian children requires equal opportunity, collective work and caring for others. As an educational institution, FEB UI strives to build a friendly, and caring environment so that students are able to explore their potential, adapt, be creative, and innovate so that they are always ahead and relevant to face the challenges of the times. As a public education institution, FEB UI is committed to providing equal opportunities and the widest possible access to quality education for marginal groups, minorities and persons with disabilities, because FEB UI is a Home for All.
