U.S News & World Report: UI is the Best in Indonesia

DEPOK – (5/11/2020) Universitas Indonesia (UI) was included in the list of the Best Global University Ranking by the U.S News & World Report, a media company based in Washington DC. This is the first time that they have ratings for Indonesian universities.

On the ranking list, UI has succeeded in becoming the best university in Indonesia, or ranked 831 globally and 192 in Asia. The seventh edition of the ranking, which was released on October 20, 2020, was carried out for  1,500 of the best universities across 86 countries.

The top three rankings of the best universities in the world according to U.S News are Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University. In Asia, the top three rankings are Tsinghua University, China; National University of Singapore; and Nanyang Technological University.

U.S News & World Report establishes  their ranking through 13 indicators, namely: global research reputation, regional research reputation, scientific publications, books, and conferences.

Then, indicators for  citation impact, total citations, number and percentage of publications included in the 10 percent most cited, international collaborations, and the number and percentage of papers included in the top 1 percent most cited in their respective fields.

UI Rector Ari Kuncoro expressed his appreciation for this achievement. The ranking given is consistently entered and recognized by various prestigious world ranking agencies. This achievement does not belong to UI alone, but also to  the national higher education community.

“The inclusion of UI in the ranking list will open up wide opportunities for the institution to be recognized and seen on the global education stage,” he said, as quoted from the UI page, Wednesday (4/11/2020).

Ari said, UI is expanding its wings to collaborate with various world universities, as well as government and industries. Even in the midst of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he said, collaboration and cooperation are the main keys.

“Ranking is not the main goal, but to realize and fulfill the indicators in the ranking can be a trigger for UI academicians to accelerate forward,” he concluded. (hjtp)
