DEPOK – (11/11/2020) The Postgraduate Program in Management Science (PPIM), Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, held an open session for the Doctoral Promotion of Budi Setiawan (1706090292) online, on Wednesday (11/11/2020). The Session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Irwan Adi Ekaputra, with Prof. Dr. Adi Zakaria Afiff (Promoter) and Dr. Ignatius Heruwasto (Co-Promoter) as Supervisors. Prof. Firmanzah, Ph.D., (Chief Examiner), Daniel Tumpal H. Aruan, Ph.D., Dr. Nuri Wulandari, Dr. Ir. Setyo Hari Wijanto, and Sri Rahayu Hijrah Hati, Ph.D. as the examiners.

The dissertation written by the Promovendus was entitled “The Role of Personal Norms in Theory of Planned Behavior in Explaining Behavior (Study of Waste Sorting Behavior).” This study aims to analyze the role of personal norms as a core factor of norm activation theory (NAT), in predicting pro-environmental behavior that has not been fully explained by the theory of planned behavior (TPB).

Waste sorting is a special study of pro-environmental behavior which is the focus of this study. The final sample size was 300 respondents from three different cities in Indonesia, namely Bogor, Depok and Jakarta. Purposive sampling is chosen as a sampling technique with certain specific criteria that are relevant to the cultural context.

Structural equation modeling is used to test hypotheses and is equipped with stepwise regression to reveal the contribution of each predictor in the model. The results showed that personal norms have an important role in complementing the explanation of waste sorting behavior through TPB and NAT integration. This research makes an important contribution to the field of social marketing, through managerial implications and theoretical contributions.

At the conclusion, the Executive Board of the doctoral promotion open session decided, Budi Setiawan (1706090292) passed with the title Cumlaude and succeeded in obtaining the 287th Doctorate in Marketing Management Science. Congratulations to Dr. Budi Setiawan! (hjtp)
