LD FEB UI Research: Consumers Are Increasingly Dependent on the Gojek Application During the Pandemic

DEPOK – (10/10/2020) Research from the Demographic Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (LD FEB UI) shows the massively increasing use of digital applications during the COVID-19 pandemic. Consumers are also increasingly dependent on digital applications.

These results were obtained from a survey conducted with a quantitative approach by LD FEB UI on 4,199 respondents who utilized Gojek digital transactions during the pandemic. The survey was conducted in September 2020.

46 percent of consumers admitted to using the Gojek application more frequently during the pandemic. In addition, 93 percent of consumers surveyed considered the Gojek application to have better safety standards.

“During the pandemic, consumers increasingly depend on digital services, such as ordering food, shipping goods, and digital payments.” said LD FEB UI Researcher, Alfindra Primaldhi, in a report on Indonesian Consumer Behavior in Digital Transactions during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Saturday (10 / 10).

80 percent of respondents also believe that Gojek provides services that are clean or hygienic and safe from the risk of COVID-19, where this aspect is one of the important points in the choice of services by consumers.

In addition, there has been an increase in the use of digital services that have not been widely previously used by consumers, such as health services through GoMed, and charities through GoGive.

86 percent of consumers surveyed also claimed to have been greatly helped by the Gojek application in adapting to new habits and staying productive during the pandemic.

“Having a digital platform such as Gojek helps consumers to adapt and maintain productivity in a pandemic situation that  is full of uncertainty.” he explained.

The survey also noted an increase in the use of various service features in the Gojek ecosystem compared to the number of transactions recorded before the pandemic. 65 percent of consumers admit to using GoFood services more often, followed by GoPay services with 68 percent, Paylater 57 percent, and GoSend 36 percent.

Also, the average consumer spending per month for grocery shopping services also increased, as shown in the GoMart service which rose 44 percent and food orders through GoFood rose 26 percent.

Overall, the amount of GoPay balances used by consumers per month increased by 8 percent during the pandemic.

Finally, 90 percent of respondents think their quality of life is better with Gojek and 94 percent of consumers admit that they will continue to use the Gojek application and not switch to other applications. As many as 96 percent of consumers agree to recommend Gojek to their friends and relatives.

“The positive consumer perception of digital applications that helped them during the pandemic will make them even more loyal to the platform.” he added. (hjtp)
