Depok – (09-10-2020) The Magister of Accounting program, FEB UI, invited expert practitioners for a public lecture that discussed online “The Story of Irvins Salted Egg: Business Lesson”. Irvins, his nickname, describes his experience in running this business, which he started in 2008. With his trade motto “Dangerously Addictive,” he has a vision to create innovations that excite the world, and a mission to become the platform for local to global food innovation. This snack at Terminal 3 (T3) Changi Airport has become somewhat of a mandatory souvenir from Singapore to Indonesia.

The speaker was Irvin Hasaga Yuga Gunawan, Founder of Irvins Salted Egg, moderated by Selvy Monalisa, MBA, Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, FEB UI. At the opening, Dr. Ancella A. Hermawan, MBA., CA., ACMA., CGMA, Head of the FEB UI Accounting Department, appreciated this event because it was the first public lecture in the odd semester of 2020-2021, which invited Irvins Salted Egg (Singapore) to share knowledge about his business.

This phenomenal snack was born from its restaurant kitchen in River Valley, Singapore, in 2008. With a perfect recipe and luck, the restaurant became famous in 2 years with its flagship menu of salted egg potato chips and salted egg fish skin. The first culinary business he started immediately made a fortune thanks to the good business climate in Singapore, although Irvins had to face various challenges. However, these challenges were not a big problem for him considering that Irvins already has the passion and dream to build a business in Singapore.

According to Irvins, the business starts from simple things such as having colleagues who are reliable, honest, thrifty, hardworking, and good at gauging the market. In managing his business, Irvins explained that he implemented 2 management credos, namely financial management & resource management. In financial management, never forget to pay attention to the monthly financial statement, Financial Planning and Analysis such as Forecasting, budgeting, reviews and audits. For resource management, take into account the Half year performance review, Objective and Key Results (OKR) / Key Performance Indicator (KPI), 360 feedback (information from superiors, subordinates, peers and equals) to employees.

Even though he has gained success across the country, Irvins wants to open an official branch in Indonesia even though some of his products are sold through resellers in e-commerce. Apart from opening branches in Indonesia, they also have plans to export their products to many countries. (hjtp)
