JAKARTA – In adding insight to the population census, the Masters in Population and Employment Economics (MEKK) FEB UI held a Public Lecture “Population Census 2020 Indonesia, Implications of Demographics” and was opened by Dwini Handayani as Chair of the FEB UI MEKK Study Program which took place in 1.5 – 1.8 spaces , MPKP Building, Thursday (2/20/2020).

Professor Emeritus at the Australian National University (ANU) Institute for Social and Demographic Research, Terence Harwood Hull explained that Indonesia has 3 methods for collecting population census data according to BPS, namely CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interviewing), CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing), and PAPI (Paper and Pencil Interviewing).

Meanwhile, the integration of data on the population census is in accordance with President Jokowi’s direction that the confusion of a number of data from various ministries and institutions is one of the causes of the suboptimal implementation of government policies. For this reason, a population data is needed.

“Basically, population census data is taken based on de jure (regarding administrative data), and de facto (describing the real reality at the time the census / survey was conducted),” said Terence

He continued, at this time, the 2020 population census implemented a dual system and made it easier for families / citizens to fill in online data through an online system (in the network). When reviewed, online comes from English, which means very brave, well that means the population census is conducted very boldly.

“From 16 February to 31 March, the BPS portal for the census will be opened for all Indonesian citizens and fill in the short form C1-. “To create a BPS portal, we need 16-digit data from the NIK (Population Identification Number) or KK (Family Card),” he said.

Meanwhile, verification of census population data is also seen from gender, nationality, marriage, birth certificate or death, religion / belief. Then, where to stay, online activities, all members’ lists were asked. So the relevant coding is needed.

“The government in capturing the population of Indonesia to be involved in filling out census data it is necessary to guarantee and protect such data so that it does not leak to foreign countries. Looking at the 2010 population census experience, nearly 10 million people were not involved in filling census data. For this reason, socialization / education needs to be given to the importance of a population census so that all Indonesian citizens can be properly recorded,” he concluded. (Des)
