Collaborative Publication, An Alternative Publication Strategies

DEPOK – The publication of scientific journals is one of the obligations in fulfilling the graduate program graduation requirements. Besides, lecturers are also encouraged to actively conduct research and publish scientific journals. One alternative to publication is to join collaborative journal writing by several authors.

Tips and discussions on writing this collaboration were shared by Abdilah Ahsan in the Regular Seminar of the Department of Economics with the theme ”
Publish or Perish? The Uncommon Tips For Collaborative Publication “in the Kolopaking Soenaryo Room, Dean Building, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, Depok Campus (11/12/2019).

To find a team of writers can be started by finding a complementary team. “I have a research problem. I have a grade for conduct research, but I need someone who writes, a research assistant, then I also need proofreading experts. So mutual benefits emerge. We join in with the benefits.”

Collaborative publications also provide better results. “If we collaborate we can achieve more and the quality will be higher. For example, my English cannot be improved even if I take courses. So it is irrelevant and not strategic to take additional courses, the strategic thing is to find people with good English. Native or even a lecturer abroad will later put his name in the author, “Abdilah added.

Alternatively, create a strategy by making more than 1 resume paper. “If 2 people gather and only produce one paper, it is not effective. It is better to produce 2-3 papers. And one research project, it can be 2-3 papers.”

This activity also held discussion sessions and share experiences regarding journal writing. This activity was attended by lecturers and graduate students, both from outside and within the University of Indonesia. (Des)
