JAKARTA – On Friday (11/10), Magister of Management held a Guest Lecture session with the topic “Is Trade Over? Towards A New World Economic Order” which was delivered by Prof. Gonzalo Garland as Vice President of External Relation at Instituto de Empresa (IE) University, Spain. The session was held at Magister of Management Auditorium, FEB UI Salemba Campus and opened by Dr. Beta Yulianita Gitaharie (Vice of Dean in Academic, Research, and Student Affair). The participants were Lecturer and Master Students.

Prof. Garland started the main session by explaining about the history of globalization started from 1000C. Revolution of the industry has an important role in initiating globalization. Adam Smith and David Ricardo had a significant role to make the path of international trade which has no barriers and protection across the countries or we can say as free trade. The international trade was dominated by China and India but there are changes to the trading map, as time goes by.

At the ending of the session, he concluded that free trade can be beneficial (for example, increase the GDP) or vice versa and it is unavoidable, the most important thing is how we make the best strategy to encounter any possibilities that can appear.

We thank Prof. Garland for visiting and sharing such valuable insight with us. Hopefully, the insight can bring a new perspective and be beneficial for the participants. (Des)
