On 30th January 2019, Department of Economics FEB UI held Intensive Course program about Public Policy related to Environment. This course is second part of long-term collaboration agreement between School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (SBE-VU) and FEB-UI.

Lecturer from Department of Spatial Economics VU University, Dr. Gerard Van Der Meijden as Assistant Professor, gave sessions about Environmental Policy. The lecture was discussing about the current problem of environment which climate change mostly occurred because of human actions. For example, when people build a factory, it will produce wastes, such as air and water pollution. Consequently, it would increase the air humidity around us, melt the ice, as well as raise sea level and temperature. In the long term, coral reef will be damaged, the pattern of rain and snow will be changed, alteration animal and plant habitation will be destroyed. To overcome this problem, research using economic curves and mathematical model was conducted on how economists and tax policies can reduce the effects of climate change and utilized the pollution to be more valuable.

During the discussion, participants presented actual climate change problem all over the world, which was caused by CO2 and population growth in the future. They continued the session by talking about how to optimize natural resources in the future, as well as how to prevent environmental damage by using technological advancement.
The participants who took part in the activity were lecturers and students from various university such as UI, ITB etc. It is very insightful and amazing, because the lecture delivers with an interactive way and always give feedback.
Good news from Netherlands!! Dutch newspaper (de Volkskrant) released the news about collaboration between FEB UI and SBE-VU in conducting a joint research about environmental economics.
